Swanley Town Council flew the Commonwealth Flag in honour of Commonwealth Day on Monday 12th March.
The ceremony began with a short prayer from Cannon Herbert and was followed by the Commonwealth Affirmation, read to the crowd by Mayor of Swanley, Cllr Laurence Ball.
At 10.00am promptly the Commonwealth Flag was proudly raised by a student from Orchards Academy to the Commonwealth anthem.
This is an annual event in the town diary and is growing in popularity across England and the Commonwealth.
Along with Councillors and other dignitary’s local MP Sir Michael Fallon lent his support to the event with Swanley Town Council staff, local businesses, police officers, community warden and Orchard Academy staff and students were all in attendance for the flag raising.
Despite a wet overcast day attendance was good and everyone gathered in The Alexandra Suite for a cup of something warm and a cake afterwards.
Teas, coffees, squash and cakes were kindly donated by the Co-Operative.
